  I had a brief moment where I was going to have him be worried about nina’s pipod or you know.. the human attached to the sex meats. But then I realized the comedy potential of how Dornail, mid lust drunkness, realizes he’s needed. heh heh.

  Dornail and Rodney are both super stylized from years and years of being drawn over and over. Can you believe originally Dornail had haunches more like a real dragon’s hind quarters? With real knees and everything! The bizzare leg stems I’ve devolved him too always crack me up.

  Not sure it’s a samurai so much as the only way to wear a dynamite suit – I think the Babylonians had similar woven reed based armor. Nice Golgo 13 face in the last panel there – an Excel Saga joke?

    wow! If you google image search baylonians you’ll see some of this armor! interestingly enough this reminds me of the look of Dracula’s Blood Armor from the 90′s movie. The design was done by Mike Mignola who tends to research things. Dracula was a carpathian.. But I wanna say that I remember an interview where he said he was just making up something he thought looked cool. Oh well. I tried to find it for a minute but couldn’t find the exact inspiration or quote. Look it up! It’s awesome (and looks like tightly packed dynamite too!). ha ha The golgo face isn’t an intentional golgo face. Although it’s the same sort of gag where a cartoony person suddenly gets a much more realistic face. That said I fuckin’ love Excel Saga!

  CWR is right! It’s actually the natural look that came out of wrapping a man as completely in dynamite as I could (while still showing it was a man wrapped in dynamite). I wasn’t actually thinking of samurais or anything at the time. But I totally see how you’d think that!
