Ah! Allow me to clarify! This whole 2 page sequence (this page and the one before it) was merely Dave and Dornail having a bit of a detective’s duel! So it was all about trying to one up each other on deductions. But Dornail loaded the beginning of his deduction (panel 2) with a trap to find out if Dave and Miko were in a relationship. Not really having any way to retort to Dornail’s accusation that he’s either the killer or a poor detective, Dave fires back that he and Miko aren’t in a relationship (we can assume this is somewhat frustration on Dave’s part as he probably wasn’t happy with Dornail’s accusations). Of course, this was just what Dornail wanted to hear as he finds hitting on single women less challenging. Does that clarify a bit? Dave is actually trying to be a bit diplomatic in this respect. He wants to just talk Dornail into handing over the pipod. Dornail’s being a dick here.
