Not sure what to say… Awesome page, fun wordings, coolest ship-inn-a-bottle I have ever seen and the necronomicon! Now Raven! You have to explain how it returned to Fire-Eye’s cave ahead of Rodney and Dornail.

  • Raven

Yeah.. it was tough because they are basically telling him stuff you already know. Although you may not have gathered that fire eyes was dying. Or that the boys had done some recon to get the drop on him (hence holy mackerel). Also the destroyed pages were pertaining to Astrophe… To some extent if you are evil you can count on Rodney and Dornail showing up to kick your door in. In this instance Fire Eyes would have been a winner either way. The Worm God (although dumb lookin’) would have eventually helped him meet his needs. If the boys showed up with holy mackerel the Astrophe definitely would have. Anyway you are right indeed sir.. the “facebook” does make it’s way back to murder mountain before the attack.

    • Fat Badger

But how! I wanna see the epic journey of the necronomicon. Went from Fireeye’s possession to Rodneys, to Shelf then Rodney Then to Ash who took it back in time… Probably left it in murder mountain you know what? Probably best not to show.

    So. Awesome.
Love the ship in a bottle… your artwork is astounding. I love that Shelf is back in the mix, when he was introduced anecdotally the first time I was sad such a great idea wasn’t explored further… now I am happy : )

    • Raven

Just like all the ideas barely brought up so far, every character will get their day in the sun. Even here, paige and the shelf’s role is brief (but important). We’ll see more of him again.

        Needs Moar Metalhead

        • GaudySphinx

also, how can i change my avatar??

  • http://randommode.deviantart.com/ RandomMode

You’re an awesome writer and artist and it shows a lot in parts like this.

    • Raven

Well they can’t ALL be peeing into skulls! ha ha. Thanks man.

  • http://www.needcomics.com/Locus/ Adam Black

That ship in the bottle is awesome, man. I need one of those.

    • Raven

Is it nerdy to like those ships in bottles without ever having the desire to make one? I just always thought they were awesome.

      • Fat Badger

They are. I actually own one, got it from my father or was it my grandfather? or did I just find it? Cannot remember, however it is nowhere near that awesome.

  • Plaguewalker

So…he built a ship being destroyed by a kraken inside a bottle…and then painted it. Very impressive.

A book on supermodels? Why does the shelf need a book on super models? >.>

The truth shall finally be revealed! What or who is Rosa?

    • Raven

The shelf looks like a clumsy mannequin, but he is in fact quite capable of intricate movement. He also appreciates nature and construction (as evidenced on his first page with the leaf at sunset and the swiss watch). I don’t have much room for characterization, but I wanted the shelf to shine through as doing some of his favorite things.

Also the super model book title is a bad joke… Model referring to model ships (monsters) in bottles. Heh heh.

And yes!!! There’s no more old stuff to cover. On the very next page it’s white hot ANSWER TIME!

      • Plaguewalker

Huh. That’s some very subtle characterization…how exactly you do crazy over the top action, and still drop such subtle hints is well…impossible, if I weren’t seeing it myself.

Oooooooo! I thought he was looking a collection of women in questionable clothing…my bad. :P

        It’s so good it burnnnnsss.

    • Fat Badger

Normally the ship is built first and then the background painted afterwards… However that particular model would be impossible to paint seeing as it is quite clear he painted the model itself after finishing it makeing him either GOD of warhammer painters or he is possessing som… Quite oddly shaped pencils.

      • Plaguewalker

So its the Shelf who keeps winning those Golden Demons year after year, under an ever changing array of aliases! That’s devious…

  • Murch

So, yeah, building a ship in a bottle has just been added to my to-do list.

    Damn!

Also, I for one love the exposition. Getting it from a source like Shelf and Paige really just knocks it out of the park, though.

    • Plaguewalker

Correction, my good sir. Building a ship in mid-battle/destruction with a Kraken and a red-headed mermaid for it’s pretty lady on the front has been added to your to do list.

And if you accomplish that, you are a god, and I want pictures. >_>

      • Murch

First I must walk before I can bring deific works to bear and allow others to bask in their radiance.

But yeah, you’re right. Even if I really do take up ship-in-a-bottle building, the mermaid-masted kraksterpiece will taunt me mockingly from my mind’s eye. And the archives, of course.

  • Javer

Always thought the Shelf was a charming character concept.

Wait . . . He has superhuman cognitive powers and is painting a giant one-eyed squidlike monster causing devastation?

Watchmen has taught me that this rarely ends well.

  • Hell Tutor

That character looks soo familiar.. I think I saw something like him somewhere..

    • RedneckNinja

      page 136

      • Hell Tutor

        Thank you!
I knew I has seen the shelf before.

  • RedneckNinja

I love how a character with no facial expressions can seem convey emotions. Does the Shelf actually have emotions?

    • RedneckNinja

What would happen if he just crammed in a bunch of CliffsNotes? Or pamphlets on Scientology?

      • Haaly

Now I know how Tom Cruise came to exist!, thanks RedneckNinja, that question has been haunting me for years!

  • FallenTalon

Your comic never ceases to amaze me since page one. Keep up the good work and thanks for the awesome wallpaper.

  • Flyingsquirrell

You know what’s really fucked up? I had a dream about Shelf-Head like three years ago.
